Technique - Fat over Lean

The traditional fat over lean technique in oil painting was brought to my attention in the 'Painting and Thinking' material sessions.
The technique's purpose is to avoid the cracking of oil paint over time, making work more archivally sound. It also has the added bonus of creating more vibrant tones and depth. It makes sense that this technique was favoured by Pre-Raphealites and Decadent artists.
